We are the largest vasectomy service provider in Humboldt County—Dr. Paik-Nicely has done hundreds on adult men of all ages. If your family is complete, come see us for a consultation. We'll help you understand the in-office, 20-minute procedure and what you can expect. (Most men are relieved once they talk to us.)
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
Vasectomy is a minor procedure, but many men feel anxious about it. Before you come in, take a long, hot shower to relax, and use plenty of soap. Make sure you have several bags of frozen peas in the freezer (we'll also send you home with one). You may find it more comfortable once you're home to wear snug underwear or a jockstrap, so have those available should you need them.
DURING THE PROCEDURE
You'll be awake during the procedure, but won't feel a thing. Dr. Paik-Nicely has calming music playing during the procedure, and you'll be able to hear and communicate if you wish to.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
You'll be numb for 1-2 hours after the vasectomy. Your job after the procedure is to apply cold packs and lie on your back as much as possible for the rest of the day. (Good movies or audiobooks are a good way to pass the time.) If you have any pain or discomfort, take over-the-counter pain relievers as directed; wear supportive underwear to help ease discomfort. In most cases, you'll be back to work on Monday.
