Our goal is to enable women and men to be the key participants in their own health care decisions. We are here to educate, advise, and support you, whether you are in need of birthing options, breastfeeding support, family planning (including vasectomies), well-woman care, or counseling services. We focus on the complete person—physical, mental, and spiritual—and are commmited to your health and well-being.

All are welcome here.

Tim Paik-Nicely, MD

I decided I wanted to be a family doctor when I was about 8 years old and visited the home office of my father's small-town family physician. I do this work because I feel called to service. My work is my ministry; it  largely defines who I am. I established With Open Arms to provide a place of safety, healing, respect, and unconditional love. I see myself as a witness to the miracle of life, and I honor the "breath of life" (Aloha) we all share. I work with women and men under my care as an advisor, collaborator, and partner in helping them make the best decisions for themselves and their families.

Marissa Kummerling, MD

Each day I am inspired by the resiliency and strength of the patients I serve. Bearing witness to the miracle of pregnancy and birth is truly one of the highest honors of my work. I am passionate about educating my patients so they feel empowered to make decisions regarding their care. As a family physician, caring for the family as a unit is essential to my practice. I am honored to have recently joined With Open Arms, and to contribute to the care our clinic family provides to the community.

Tessa Stone, CNM

My care follows the midwifery model of care, which aims to instill confidence and knowledge, guide with truth and respect, and protect the growing families in our community. I provide my clients with as much information as I can so they can make the best decision for themselves and their families. I relish in the miracle that is birth. I am fascinated daily by the mystery of womanhood, and I hope that everyone who comes into contact with my care leaves feeling worthy of empowering and respectful health care.

Sommer Halligan, LM

I value the opportunity to build a personal relationship with each of our patients, and I am responsive to each person's unique and individual needs. It is vital to me that our patients feel respected and validated in their experience, and I strive to empower everyone to make their own best choices by emphasizing health education. I believe our bodies are an everyday miracle, and I teach from that perspective. I am tremendously honored to be part of With Open Arms, and privileged to serve this community as a midwife.

Pata Vang, ACSW

I am passionate about social justice, advocacy, educating, and building stronger communities. Over the years, my experiences have taught me how to truly lend a listening ear and an open heart while working with individuals and families, whether it is a counseling session or collaborating with communities in building stronger and healthier communities. I come from a family of 10 and cherish family time. I enjoy the outdoors, cooking, and eating. I am inspired by two great leaders: my parents. They continue to teach me how to love unconditionally and see the world through a different lens to lend a helping hand.

Laura Solis

I believe that serving our community with integrity and respect is key to building strong and healthy relationships. I enjoy being involved with our patients in their journey into parenthood. Seeing the miracle of life growing before my eyes is by far one of the best experiences I have ever witnessed. I have been blessed to be part of such a remarkable team, and hope to continue being a part of this wonderful venture.

Tarren Wilson

I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to learn and receive information that will be beneficial to my future career. I love education and learning new things, gaining wisdom and understanding in all phases of education. I care about building relationships and helping my community to the best of my abilities. When you walk into With Open Arms you can be at rest, having peace that we have your best interests at heart. I am appreciative of With Open Arms' ability to be of service in Humboldt County, with tremendously talented providers who care for their patients physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Armida Martinez

I feel very fortunate to be part of our patients' pregnancy development. It is very rewarding being part of all the memorable moments that come with pregnancy. I enjoy assisting our providers and ensuring that our patients obtain all the information needed to fulfill all their pregnancy milestones. I relish knowing that I work with a team that provides extraordinary, quality care to our community.
